Always Remembered, and Never Forgotten.
Posted for: FRED STEWART ROTH:
Fred Roth was in Foxtrot Battery (105mm howitzers), 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. During the first week of May 1967 Fred was assigned TAD to Kilo 3/9 as the enlisted artillery Forward Observer (MOS 0846), and replaced the previous FO (me) who was WIA and medivaced on April 30. A few weeks subsequent thereto and on May 24, 1967, and on Hill 70, near Con Thien, Kilo 3/9 was in a firefight with the NVA. Along with the ROs, Fred was in a foxhole and took a 61mm motar round directly in his back. Fred was instantly KIA and the RO's John Krohn and Larry Meierer were WIA from the same shrapnel that passed through Roth.

Fred was a tall, blonde-haired orphan from the state of Washington. Great personality. Got to know Fred at the artillery Forward Observer training on Okinawa during Jan/Feb of 1967, and on liberty call in Kin Village.
