| Remembering Gary | |
| Posted for: GARY LEE HEEMAN: | |
| Gary was a very special friend of mine whom I met in 1963 in 7th grade at Sayre High School; Sayre, Pennsylvania. Because we sat next to each other in homeroom, I quickly became good friends with Gary and his brother Dale. On one cold bitter winter evening in 1963, Gary invited me to join him in front of our local Newberry's Store where he volunteered his time ringing the Salvation Army bell and collected donations and clothing goods for those who were truly in need. As a 7th grader, I was forever impressed by Gary's selfless spirit and genuine willingness to be there to help others who truly were in need. Perchance this was the same selfless calling Gary felt when he was asked to serve his country, for indeed Gary would have never said "no" to anyone who needed help. We have indeed lost a very gracious and generous young man in Gary. I for one will forever carry his scars and feel the pain of Vietnam through the loss of this very special childhood friend. I offer up a simple prayer that our Lord Jesus Christ who called Gary from this life to Himself will grant him eternal rest in His presence until that day we meet again in the new and eternal Jerusalem. Thank you Gary for all you gave to all of us! I will never forget you my friend! Rest in peace. Larry W. Hoey Sayre, PA |
