I Remember Barry
Posted for: BARRY HENNETT WILLIAMS:
I knew Barry in High School. We weren't friends, but only acquaintances who shared several classes during our four years at Saratoga High. Barry posssessed many of the qualities that I wished for, but could not have. Barry was a jock, I was a nerd but unlike many of our peers, Barry treated everyone with equal respect and courtesy. I joined the United States Navy soon after graduation and lost track of most of my classmates. I did not know until many years had passed that Barry had been killed in Viet Nam. Barry had the talent and intelligence to have been anything he wanted to be, he did not have to die in that war. Instead, Barry chose to be a Marine and to fight for values he held dear. Barry is a hero and not because he died. He is a hero because he didn't have to die. Barry, I wish I had made the effort to know you better. You are gone, but not forgotten. Rest in peace.
