Encouragement to Other VietNam Vets
Posted for: BRUCE DAVID KLINGAMAN:
Thirty years ago was a long time ago...yet it's been relived , well I cannt say daily. but I can say more times than I had wished...yes, any of you guys out there or families or friends....tis me....FOXY FALLS, "your friendly forward observer" as I use to call myself...'till "the incident"..."C" Company was strung out over a pretty long route as we were cutting through the "busch" getting to our night lagger. As Allan says, there were VC in the open, I called in the "fire mission" we had a first round WP (white phosporus) come in right over the VC's location....then came the infamous "fire for effect" one of the firing GUNS had not been calibrated recently and the worn tube caused the "long round", which was the round that terminated the lives of my three friends...(Please visit the sites of M. Garcia and M. Gonsalez 03/05/70 ) as all of this information applies to those fellow fallen patriots as well as Klink). A "quick aside is that Klink and I had just swapped Peaches for Variety just hours befor "the incident" I just want to let the families of those great heros know that they did their jobs well and that I can never tell you how much remorseI have for what happened. An aside to this is also to Thank all the Troops of C Co. 146LIB that stood by me in this, my most agonizing times. I know there are VETS out there that have probably had more traumatic incidents, but Guys of the C Co. 196 stood by me whenI returned to the field 3 days after the incident and supported me for the next 2 months as I had to call in some pretty close artillery even after "the incident" . It's to you guys that I have to say you have kept me "going for all these years" , You taught me thaat"life is not perefect, mistakes will happen, life doesn't end with those mistakes... But it 's you guys' confidence in me that kept/keeps me going. To the families, again, my most sincere regrets, but your sons/husbands/fathers were my friends and I do sincerely want you to know that I also treasured their friendship and want you to know in my wallet will remain names &dates of that most "infamous day" in my life.
