| Paul, I remember as a little boy when you would come over our house. It was always a fun and exciting visit. All of us kids would yell"Pauls' here" and knew we were in for a fun time. I liked especially when you would hide and fold your eyelids back, then pop out from your hiding space and chase us around the house!! We loved it! One of the funniest memories I have is when , On another visit, you wanted to go to Jimmies, the local store ,to get a soda or candy, most likely for us kids, and you didn't feel like walking. So, instead, you took granpops lawnmower tractor, the 10 horse Bolens, and drove it to the store on the street! My stepfather,Willis, your oldest brother got a kick out of it! He would say.. That damn paul!! he's nuts! I think it was even funnier when it ran out of gas!! I was too young to understand at the time, but old enough to know that ,not if it was wrong or right, but something going on in the world was out of balance.I didn't spend a lot of time with you,but I have a few great memories of you. The first time I ever saw a man break down and cry was when Bobby came over to tell Willis that you had been killed. The gloom that came across that day. I was 7 yrs. old at the time. I went to my first funeral that I can remember, the 21 gun salute, the flag folding and the military honors stuck in my head. I remember you picture on top of the casket.I stared at it throughout the whole funeral. I felt ,as a little 7 yr. old that even though we ,my brother Ronald and my sister,Jaki, were step children , It made no difference to you.You chased us.Billy too, making sure to take some time out of your visit to spend it with us.I also recall that I was worried that I would get in trouble for missing school, but my sister said ,we weren't going to get in trouble for being absent,we were out For Paul, and the school would understand. I knew it was ok, so we all twisted up our eyeids and chased each other. |
