Spring, Summer, Fall Internships

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) offers a number of office-based internship positions (Washington D.C.) throughout the spring, summer and fall. Interns will be exposed to multiple facets of VVMF and be actively engaged in departmental work such as: grassroots mobilization, field organizing, internet projects, communications, marketing and events.

Our office environment is casual, but we do serious work. It's busy, sometimes noisy and sometimes quiet. There are meetings, get-togethers and other events occurring in the office on a regular basis. You’ll enjoy a great working environment and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications:  To be eligible for an internship at VVMF, candidates must be (or will be) undergraduate level students or recent graduates within 6 months of completing their undergraduate degree.

Day to day duties may include: research and fact-checking, trip and event preparation, collection of press clips, donor database management, and administrative tasks. Interns are required to work a minimum of 15 hours per week and can work up to 35 hours per week. A small stipend is provided based on the number of hours worked per week or students can receive academic credit consistent with their university's guidelines (Please Note: interns are not eligible to earn both a stipend and academic credit).

Unpaid Internships for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at the Museum Resource Center, National Park Service in Landover, MD (multiple positions)

Job Description:

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) is seeking up to three students in a Museum Studies, History, Art History, or Architectural History program for an unpaid internship(s).  Academic credit can be arranged with the sponsoring college or university.  The researcher/intern(s) will assist with documenting and cataloging artifacts for display in the future Education Center at The Wall in Washington, DC. Over 200,000 artifacts left at The Wall for the past 29 years have been collected and stored at the National Park Service's Museum Resource Center located in Landover, Maryland.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Use the National Park Service Interior Collection Management System Plus (ICMS) to identify specific artifacts in the catalog, under the direction of NPS and VVMF staff.

  • Document accurate artifact descriptions, dimensions, type/material, and conditions for the exhibition collection database.

  • Take actual photographs and upload for reference documentation.

  • Update the exhibition collection database, inputting all artifact documentation and photographs using photographic equipment and computer resource materials provided by VVMF.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and experience in collections management and archival processes.

  • Experience with Filemaker Pro and ICMS or similar content management system.

  • Strong written and verbal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.

  • Proficiency with computers, digital cameras and scanners.

  • Interest in Vietnam era a plus.

Key Requirements:

  • Flexible work schedule, arrange shifts between multiple interns.  As many as (3) days per week, beginning in January.  End dates determined by individual schedules and academic requirements.

  • Provide own transportation to/from Museum Resource Center in Landover, MD.
