Sarah from ID:  I am writing the memories of a WWII veteran, Wally Norton, 11th Airborne Division, to be published in a local newspaper on or about November 11. His experiences can be transposed to any period of time, including the Vietnam War era. Wally's story highlights the universality of combat experience - all veterans can identify with his narrative. We fly our flag every day, but on November 11, we include the MIA flag as part of our display.

Michael from NJ:  I hope to visit the NJ Vietnam Memorial and the Gen. Doyle Military Cemetary to offer prayers of Thanksgiving for all of my military brothers who are no longer with us - but resting in the arms of God.

Joe from VA:  I don't believe I could visit the Wall because of the way I fell...I have tried but back out...I do not know why...But I will be involved in helping other veterans and their families and visiting a very close friend of WWII and placing a flag @ his headstone and the headstone of any Veteran I see.

David from IL:  I will speak to a 5th grade group in Bloomington IL in the morning. Work at the Livingston County War Museum in Pontiac IL in the afternoon, founded by my father - A veteran of D-Day on Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. In the late afternoon, my mother and I will buy drinks for veterans at the local VFW in my father's name. Finally, I will make two calls - to a D-Day vet/friend of my father to thank him for saving my Dad's squad from a sniper on D-Day night and then to the sister of my best friend, Bob Pulaski, KIA in Vietnam 3 Aug 71. - David Estes Delta Company 1/327th Infantry "Above the Rest" 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) Vietnam 1971

Samuel from MA:  I attend Veteran's Day Services and march in parade to Veteran's Center to watch the end of services with the firing of the 11 rounds at the 11th hour. Sometimes they ask me to help carry a flag, or fire a weapon, or sometimes both.  Sometimes I get lucky and get my photo in the Gloucester Daily Times.

Joyce from FL:  Our church is collecting photos of all veterans who attend services in the uniforms of the era in which they served. A video is being made to show along with the choir singing a new anthem for Veterans Day. We will also be attending the annual Veterans Day Parade held in Panama City, followed by a service at the Panama City Marina. The Warrers Watch and Patriot Guard will be in attendance. A gentleman and his wife have been placing pictures of veterans and active duty servicemen ( all local) as well as scenes from all our wars at this service for several years. It has grown into a special tribute. It is a volunteer gift from the heart from these two people.

Carol from PA:  To express my gratitude to all who served their country and pay tribute to them, I will be visiting my local cemetery where there is a newly erected military memorial honoring veterans of all branches of service and all wars. I will pray for my special loved one who was killed in Vietnam and is laid to rest in Chicago, a childhood friend who was killed the day before my loved one and my beloved father who was a veteran of WWII. I will take a moment to say a pray for all Veterans, both living and deceased, for their service to our country and the thank them for the freedoms that they gave to all.

Craig from IL: I will be spending my day with my Civil War Re en-actor group known as the 1st Chicago Light Artillery Battery A at the ROSE HILL Cemetery in Chicago. Judy from GA: I visit the Veteran's page and see the names on the Wall, I look up pictures of the brave men that fought- I think of their families and wonder how they have coped losing a loved one. I have a picture of my husband's best friend Dan. Dan was a medic. I take it out and look at it. He was like the others- so young, but yet willing to do their part. All of Dan's family has gone on now. His Dad died last year. He was so proud of his son. I think of all the men that never got the chance to be grandpas or husbands. I wonder about all these men-what had their plans had been befor their lives that were cut down so savagely? I never forget our vets. My dad was Navy, I was Army and my husband and Dan was Army. My husband was awarded the silver star and the bronze star. I wonder if there are any more left alive over there-wondering why we abandond them. As long as there is breath in my body- I will always remember our soldiers. We went to Washington,DC several years ago-it was as if everything had just happened. These men live it everyday. We're going back to the 30th reunion- I guess that will be our last. I felt honored last time to be a reader of the names of those men and women on the Wall. I'd like to do it again.

Gordon from MI: I am going to remember that I got hit on that date--1969: Purple Heart I looked down at the sky, flat on my back, at the Southern Cross, and wondered why I was still alive, that day before I had seen death, and it had spit me up, like Jonah out of the whale, or perhaps more like a chunk of bad meat rejected, even by the taste of a jackal, part of me felt exalted, another part felt like a piece of vomit, I looked down at the stars, and they didn t seem to care, they just shined their fire back at me and said nothing, they seemed unaffected by my plight, and yet, I couldn t forget that feeling, that tranquil flight from my body, I had just taken, all encompassing peace, stillness that was complete, a feeling I wanted to feel forever, that I knew was still there, waiting, for me when my time was right.

Patricia from CT: I will like everyday say a prayer for my brother and the others that didn't make it home from Vietnam. Mary S from VT: It is a very difficult day for our Nam Vet as he lost a lot of friends. On Veteran's day, we as a family, bring our Veteran out to a nice restaurant to make it a positive day. PG from IN: VETERANS DAY is a very special day to me and as a Vietnam Veteran I'm proud to take time to pay honor to the greatest asset we have in the USA and that's the AMERICAN VETERAN. My way of remembering things on Veterans Day is to make it a day of fasting and I've done that since 1968 when I returned home from Vietnam. When the urge comes to grab something to eat, that's when I think about all the sacrifices that have been made by our VETERANS and they're the reason we have the lifestyle we enjoy today. I'll be attending the Veterans program here in Rising Sun, Indiana at the local high school at 0900 and then I'll go to the Dearborn Co. Courthouse at 1100 for another Veterans Day program and finally that afternoon I'll go to Lawrenceburg High School for a nice program there. That's where I graduated from and two of my classmates are on the WALL in Washington,DC. I'll also go to their graves and put an American Flag there. It's our duty as VETERANS to make sure those who have passed on are not forgotten and to educate the youth of America and make sure they know what it means to be a VETERAN and the respect they deserve. Rest in peace, Thomas G. Denning and Lary D. Fogle, both American Heroes !!!! PG
