Co-Chaired by America Online, Inc. Founding CEO and Chairman Emeritus James V. Kimsey and former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE), the Corporate Council meets annually to discuss the necessary outreach programs that provide students with an insight about the Vietnam War.
Since its inception, the Corporate Council has convened on an annual basis and throughout the year, generously supports the Memorial Fund's outreach initiatives. Most importantly, the members of the Corporate Council have embraced the goal of instilling future generations with a greater sense of service and sacrifice as well as personal and global responsibility. Corporate Council members actively participate in the annual ceremonies at The Wall and engage themselves and their corporate partners in the Memorial Fund's programs.
Through personal and corporate contributions, the Corporate Council has helped to finance the Memorial Fund's domestic and international projects, including:
- Echoes From The Wall: History, Learning and Leadership Through the Lens of the Vietnam War Era. This curriculum guide was sent free of charge to America's 40,000 public and private middle schools and high schools in 1999 and 2001.
- Teach Vietnam Teachers Network and Teachers' Conference. The annual conference recruits teachers from across America and sends them to Washington, D.C. for an all expenses paid educational program.
- Project RENEW. This highly successful mine action program in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, evolved from the Corporate Council's Delegation to Vietnam in the Spring of 2000, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the end of the war. The Delegation allowed participants to return to the country where they spent a formative part of their youth to reflect on their experiences collectively, and to initiate several philanthropic initiatives.
