Christmas Tree at The Wall

For many of us, the holiday season marks a festive occasion shared with family and friends.  For the families of fallen heroes, the holiday season is a painful reminder of their losses and sacrifices.

That is why, each year, staff at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund (VVMF) and local volunteers gather to place and decorate a Christmas tree at the apex of the Memorial in Washington, DC.

The tree is adorned with cards and messages from schoolchildren around the country, placed there by visitors who read and appreciate these messages before affixing them to its branches.

Students, service members, and ordinary citizens are encouraged to submit, read, and dedicate cards for the tree.  Each new remembrance placed on its branches is a symbol that represents one individuals’ recognition of the sacrifices of all who have served.

The ceremony is open to the public, and we encourage you to attend if you're in the Washington, D.C. area.  Additionally, we invite students to create ornaments or cards which are left with the tree at the Memorial.  To learn more about how you can get involved, e-mail vvmf@vvmf.org.
